Music video for The Grisly Hand's 'Country Singles' shot with GH3, GH2 and GH1!

The Grisly Hand - Country Singles from Todd Norris on Vimeo.

Back in June, a great Kansas City band called The Grisly Hand approached me about shooting a video for their new album. I was thrilled to get the chance to direct a video for 'Country Singles', which is just a flat-out great song. Schedules being what they are, we didn't get around to shooting the video until September, but now it's finally complete!
I co-directed the video with my Jetpack Pictures partner Mitch Brian. For the filmmaking nerds out there (you know who you are), here are the specs:

Shot primarily with a Panasonic GH3. A hacked GH2 was used for a few shots and my old trusty GH1 was dusted off and used for the shot where the truck drives over the camera. The Drive-In exteriors were shot at 400 ISO at f2.8 at 1/30th shutter speed. We lit using a 1.2k HMI par, two 575w HMI fresnels and a few Kini Flos.

A cheap, portable LED light was used for fill for the truck interiors and to fill the daylight exterior scenes. Since the "movie within the movie" was supposed to be an old grindhouse cheapie, I felt a garish, hard fill light would be appropriate, which was great because our lighting budget was very small. For the Drive-In portions we used a Lumix 12-35mm on one camera and a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 on the other.

For the daytime shots, most were shot with the Lumix 7-14mm. And I used a Panasonic HPX170 for shots with whip zooms and for the lateral running shots to avoid rolling shutter skew. 4 different cameras, 4 camera operators, one great video! Enjoy!
